Why do we brew ?

We love beer, we love brewing and we love being independent with a passion.

We want to brew the beers we love.

We want to build something and brew new things,  lead innovation and importantly :

help others to brew better beers they love...

And of course, being a brewer means you spread happiness..

Gino Vantieghem - Brew Master

With a long and passionate carreer in the brewing of the frotty stuff...

Gino started his brewing carreer with an internship at Brouwerij Riva in Dentergem right after his studies at the University of Leuven.  (BioEngineering).

As brewmaster at Unibroue in Quebec he created a wide range of hugely successful beers. Gino was one of only two Belgian brewers who helped to jumpstart the Craftbeer movement in the US and Canada in the early 1990's.

After the takeover of Unibroue by Sleemans Breweries Gino returned to Belgium where he rekindled the now defunct Riva brewery and turned it into Liefmans Breweries. By the age of 37 he received the prestigious Master of the Barley Lifetime Achievement Award out of the hands of Legendary beerwriter Michael 'the beerhunter' Jackson.  Until today remains Gino the most awarded Belgian Brewer in the World Beer Championships with the most different (types of) beers.

Gino is our Brewmaster and  CEO, he's responsible for running the brewery.

Quality control : Dirty job but someone has to do it...

De Feniks is of course more than just Gino, Kurt and Angela. You need a group of dedicated and driven people to make it work

and we have to say that we have been extremely lucky with the people in our team. With a lot of hard work, sweat and tears from everybody in our team we were able to build something special these last few years.

Jasper Candaele -  Junior Brewmaster

Jasper, our yeast whisperer is an established and highly talented brewer and bioengineer.

He joined De Feniks almost from day 1 and he has been instrumental for the success of

our brewery

Having studied in Gent and having worked at the Flemish Institute for BioTechnology (VIB) he has a keen knowledge of brewing technology.  An accomplished brewer in his own right he was the creator of the original recipe of our Jazz' Black Oatmeal Delight stout (Jazz = Jasper).   Next to doing most of the operational work in the brewery (hard labour) he helps to fine tune our recipes.

Geert Vandekerckhove

When not 'on the road', Geert also takes part in a lot of the festivals and fairs and is for a lot of our professional customers the face of our brewery.

Erik van Maasakkers

Erik is passionate about our beers and he was, and he is, with some help from his partner Kelly, very much the driving power behind our success at entering the Dutch market and expansion in The Netherlands.

Geert Depauw

Next to all that he also participates in a number of fairs representing De Feniks.
